Yvonne, die Problemkuh
In the summer of 2011, Yvonne, a milk cow from a small farm in Bavaria escaped into the woods just prior to being sent to the slaughterhouse. For the next three months she avoided capture, even managing to evade a helicopter armed with infrafred cameras sent to seek her out! Her will to live and love of freedom inspired animal lovers from around the world and Yvonne became a Kuhheldin-a cow heroine and icon of Freiheit. The Austrian animal sanctuary, Gut Aiderbichl, offered to buy her and give her a place to live and even purchased her sister and son to keep her company--once she was captured, that is! Finally, a team led by the veterinarian, Hennig Wiesner (the former director of Tierparks München-Hellabrun), managed, with difficulty, to tranquiize Yvonne and bring her safely to her new home. Here's the link to her article on Wikipedia (in German) and to an August 2011 article from The Guardian.
Enjoy this song (one of several) written in honor of Yvonne the cow!
